MAKJ

Born in 1990 as Mackenzie Johnson in San Luis Obispo, California, MAKJ crafts and performs epic trance-flavored EDM alongside progressive house. During his teenage years in China, where he first chased a path as a racecar driver, he took up DJ'ing. At 17 he came back to the United States and started playing sets at college gatherings. The late DJ AM taught him scratching technique. Around 2012 he began issuing original material and remixes. His profile surged in 2013 with multiple singles issued through Doorn Records, Juicy Music, and Hysteria, among them the fruitful pairings "Countdown" alongside Hardwell and "Encore" with Henry Fong. He joined Bingo Players and Bassjackers on the road while also appearing at prominent EDM events including Ultra Music Festival in Miami and TomorrowWorld in Georgia. The year 2014 brought the tracks "Let's Get F*cked Up" featuring Lil Jon and "Derp" with Bassjackers, plus jaunts across Europe and North America. That same year he landed on DJ Magazine's Top 100 DJs list. Further singles later appeared via Spinnin' Records and Protocol Recordings.
