Biography
Although presented as an intensely erotic three-piece unit, Mount Sims in fact exists solely as the studio project of Matt Sims. Residing in Milwaukee, WI, the singer/songwriter received an enormous record collection from his brother, which launched his immersion in classic R&B and soul. During adolescence Sims performed with multiple rock ensembles, absorbing the nuances of each style he encountered. When he entered the studio intending only to record a handful of tracks, the sessions instead produced a sexually charged album shaped by his affinity for electronic music, soul, and classic '80s new wave. He then recruited dancers Eric and Lisa, whose deadpan demeanor heightened the already eccentric persona, after which the “band” secured a deal with Emperor Norton Records and issued the sensual Ultra Sex. The resulting humorous, intricate, and groovy set of songs resonated strongly within the neo-electro/new wave revival community and earned Sims considerable coverage in the mainstream press.
