Navajita Plateá rose to commercial prominence as a contemporary flamenco duo once the pair delivered their 1998 album Desde Mi Azotea. Idelfonso de los Reyes, known as “Pelé,” and Francisco Carrasco, known as “Curro,” first joined forces in 1993 and issued their debut recording the following year. These gypsy musicians from Jerez de la Frontera soon supplied material for the soundtrack of Imanol Uribe’s film Dias Contados.

Following an extensive and well-received tour of Spain, the duo secured a contract with EMI/Chrysalis and issued Contratiempos under the supervision of producer Sergio Castillo. Their next project, 2001’s Hablando en Plata, took shape across sessions in Madrid, Tarifa, and London before final mixing occurred in Los Angeles, CA.
