Biography
Forming the British electronic pop project New Build, Al Doyle of Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem joined forces with Hot Chip’s Felix Martin and studio engineer Tom Hopkins. The three first encountered one another at Warp Records, then began laying down tracks at Lanark Studio that blended approaches from their earlier bands within the group’s slinky, synthesized grooves. Doyle supplied vocals on the initial releases, yet he and Hopkins soon recruited further contributors, among them vocalist Janine Rostron (aka Planningtorock) and LCD Soundsystem drummer Pat Mahoney. After issuing two limited-edition 12" records, New Build scheduled the release of its debut album, Yesterday Was Lived and Lost, for March 2012 on the band’s own Lanark Records label.
