Biography
Nolan Taylor emerged onto the national scene in the early 2020s as a country singer and songwriter whose personal stories explored heartache, family dynamics, joyful moments, and the challenges of small-town life. Growing up in Ohio, his minimalist and self-referential track "68" amassed millions of streams, drawing interest from Atlantic Records, who put out the compelling "Wicked Ways" during 2023. Opening 2024, Taylor offered the captivating "Cincinnati Heart," which examined the emotional fluctuations in long-distance romances. Early in 2025 marked the arrival of his first full album, simply titled Nolan Taylor.
Originating from Blanchester, a modest working-class community, the artist grew up alongside his father and an older sibling after his distant mother struggled with mental health challenges and substance abuse. For Taylor, music served as solace, as he absorbed local rural influences from bluegrass and country traditions, while also embracing rock acts such as the Grateful Dead, Pinegrove, Alice in Chains, and Nirvana. During high school, he acquired his initial left-handed guitar and began channeling his personal successes and difficulties into compositions. He secured performances across various venues, primarily in West Virginia, Virginia, and Kentucky, refining his emotive guitar style and profound songwriting. Inspired by the achievements of the similarly grounded singer/songwriter Oliver Anthony, Taylor shared a simple woodland video of his own song "68," which quickly spread widely online. Soon thereafter, Atlantic signed him, leading to the release of "Wicked Ways" as his first single with the label, accompanied by the EP Life & Love. In the beginning of 2024 came the rich and introspective "Cincinnati Heart," succeeded over the following months by a variety of recordings that included acoustic versions, interpretations of other artists' work, and subsequent releases such as "Love Until We Die" and "I Belong in Your Arms." All of these, combined with prior material, formed the basis of his debut self-titled album in January 2025.
