Biography
Hailing from Bergen, the black metal supergroup Orcustus assembled around vocalist and guitarist Taipan, whose affiliations include Amok and Taake among others, guitarists and bassists Tormentor and Infernus, both previously of Gorgoroth, and drummer Dirge Rep, whose résumé spans Gorgoroth, Enslaved, Aura Noir, and additional projects. Their initial 2002 demo, pressed in a run of 1,000 copies and later repressed on vinyl by Southern Lord, earned quick favor among the “trve” black metal faithful as well as influential figures such as Darkthrone’s Fenriz. Ongoing commitments elsewhere, however, restricted further activity for several years to a lone two-track single titled Wrathrash. The original four members eventually carved out time to lay down a full album, which Southern Lord finally issued in early 2009 as the long-delayed, self-titled Orcustus debut.
