Hailing from São Paulo, Brazil, the melodic heavy rock outfit Owl Company merges hard rock, post-grunge, and groove metal into a sound that carries distinct American inflections. The group’s style pulls from the hard rock eras of the 1970s, illustrated by Clutch by way of Black Sabbath, along with the 1990s. Vocalist Enrico Minelli, guitarist Felipe Ruiz, and drummer Thiago Biasoli formed the band in 2015. Second guitarist Bruno Solera and bass player Fabio Yamamoto came aboard two years later, after which the five-piece issued its debut album, Horizon. Strong regional response to the LP led the ensemble to pursue its fortunes in the United States. A performance at Los Angeles’ famed Viper Room drew the notice of producer Matt Wallace (Three Doors Down, Faith No More), who volunteered to record the band’s next single. The resulting “Pieces” earned Owl Company a contract with Eclipse Records, which released the group’s Wallace-produced sophomore long-player Iris in November 2018.
