Biography
Wayland emerged in 2010 as a high-energy, no-frills hard rock outfit from the small rural Michigan town that shares its name. Core members Mitch Arnold on vocals and guitarist Phillip Vilenski assembled the lineup, which also includes Joey Clement and Hoss Wright, and drew inspiration from both classic and contemporary rock acts such as Led Zeppelin, Shinedown, Black Crowes, and Guns N' Roses. Their self-titled debut album appeared that same year, soon followed by the four-song EP Welcome to My Head.
Explosive live performances paired with an unpretentious attitude quickly built a loyal regional audience, resulting in roughly 250 shows annually and early tours alongside Halestorm, Black Stone Cherry, Sammy Hagar, Hinder, and Alice Cooper. The 2015 stand-alone single “Bloody Sunrise” preceded a year of intensive songwriting that produced the 2017 full-length Rinse & Repeat, which delivered the group’s first Billboard Top 40 Mainstream Rock hit via “Through the Fire.” Also arriving in 2017 was Off the Record, a collection of previously unreleased tracks.
Now headquartered in Los Angeles, the band secured a deal with Fearlyss Entertainment and teamed with Buckcherry producer Keith Nelson for the 2021 EP On the Way, cementing the mainstream traction first achieved with Rinse & Repeat.
