Biography
Bonding over a shared passion for the raucous guitar-driven rock of the 1990s, both the chart-topping acts like Nirvana and Sonic Youth and the more underground outfits such as the Vaselines and Urusei Yatsura, guitarist/vocalist Corrie Gillies joined forces with drummer Chris McCrory to launch Pinact in Glasgow, Scotland, during 2013. The pair deliberately bypassed polished studio techniques in favor of raw vitality, quickly generating local excitement through their energetic club performances. Their recorded debut arrived late that same year via a split single alongside Min Diesel on the Cool Your Jets imprint. Throughout 2014 they placed additional tracks on various collections, including the Art Reeks 12" alongside Radstewart and Poledo, and supplied a note-for-note rendition of Teenage Fanclub’s “Sparky’s Dream” for a Fuzzkill Records tribute album. Their relentless self-reliant touring schedule, which found them accepting gigs at any available venue, combined with their forceful sonic attack, attracted the attention of the respected indie label Kanine. The imprint signed the duo and dispatched them to record with MJ of Hookworms overseeing production; the resulting album, Stand Still and Rot, appeared in May 2015. Pinact resurfaced in summer 2017 with the more tuneful follow-up The Part That No One Knows.
