Biography
Known for a reflective sonic approach that merges country influences with contemporary indie pop, Australian vocalist, composer, and music producer PJ Harding first gained attention performing as THIEF prior to his partnership with Noah Cyrus for their joint initial extended play, People Don't Change, issued in 2021.
His professional journey began under the THIEF moniker during 2014 via the launch of the inaugural single "Closer," which received acclaim on international broadcasts while he appeared at events such as SXSW and The Great Escape. Following several outputs, he stepped back from public view in 2016 to concentrate on crafting material. He accumulated a substantial catalog of compositions for artists including Chromeo, Ruel, and M-Phazes, remaining in a behind-the-scenes role until encountering Noah Cyrus unexpectedly at a composition workshop held in Bali during 2018. Initially contributing guitar to her 2018 recording "Good Work," the pair reunited the subsequent year to author four tracks featured on Cyrus's 2020 extended play The End of Everything. Amid global restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Harding, having relocated to L.A. for ongoing sessions with Cyrus, returned to Australia alongside his relatives. They persisted in creating and producing material remotely through digital means, resulting in the release of their first EP, the country-oriented People Don't Change, early in 2021.
