RBL Posse

In the early 1990s a Bay Area rap duo calling itself RBL Posse, an acronym for Ruthless By Law, took shape under the guidance of Black C and Mr. Cee. Working out of Black C’s own studio, the pair first surfaced in 1991 when the underground track “Don’t Give Me No Bammer” caught on. Distributing their music themselves through In-A-Minute Records, they moved nearly half a million copies of the opening pair of albums, Lesson to Be Learned and Ruthless By Law. After the 1995 side venture Solo Creep, the duo appeared headed for wider exposure under an Atlantic contract until Mr. Cee was killed in a street shooting. Black C carried forward, enlisting producers Mike Mosely, Rick Rock, and Barr 9 together with MC Eiht to complete the 1997 release An Eye for an Eye. H2O, Vol. 1 surfaced in 1999, followed two years later by Hostile Takeover.
