Biography
RecoHavoc, a rapper from Philadelphia, turned early adversity into a clear plan to establish himself through music. Self-released tracks and videos that spread quickly drew notice from PnB Rock and Lil Uzi Vert, who recognized him as an emerging artist. His distinctive hypnotic delivery gradually incorporated richer narrative layers while his profile rose rapidly, leading Atlantic Records to sign him in 2017. The label then issued his mixtape Started, hosted by DJ Drama, in 2018.
Raised in Southwest Philadelphia, RecoHavoc showed interest in both rapping and dance during childhood. At age 16 he entered juvenile correctional facilities on robbery charges, and his mother passed away during that period. Left without her and with a mostly absent father dealing with addiction plus legal problems, he relocated to Georgia after his release to stay with an aunt. During that challenging shift he concentrated on music, choosing to return to Philadelphia and fund proper studio work on new songs. Starting in 2016 he posted singles online and produced multiple videos. The track “Lucas” attracted local notice and widespread streams, its video amassing millions of views in short order. The same momentum, along with the informally dropped mixtape One Way Out, reached his peers, area radio, and record labels, resulting in Atlantic’s 2017 deal. Greater exposure followed, prompting a series of singles ahead of the 2018 release of Started. That project marked his first widely distributed effort; the DJ Drama-hosted set highlighted tracks such as “Flexxx,” “Mission,” and the reflective “Sandbox.”
