Biography
Florida rapper Robb Bank$ drew widespread notice soon after dropping his initial collection of confrontational yet cleverly assembled recordings. Having started to put out music at just 16, he progressed from the 2012 breakthrough mixtape Calendars toward the sharper production values and more developed lyricism on his 2015 studio debut Year of the Savage.
Born Richard Burrell in 1994, he entered the world in New York before moving to Broward County, Florida at age six as the child of Carol Johnson and reggae superstar Shaggy. Raised apart from his father, Bank$ took up rapping early on. Tracks from his first years surfaced in 2011 and displayed a dark, edgy style that echoed Odd Future’s output during that period. Calendars, his debut mixtape, expanded his following, after which he shifted from its raw and often harsh motifs to the more personal Tha City in 2013. More than three years after first revealing plans for a studio album, he maintained a steady schedule of live performances in the run-up to its arrival. Year of the Savage finally appeared in October 2015 via 300 Entertainment; it registered on the charts and elevated him toward broader audiences while preserving the same fierce and caustic tone. The 2016 mixtape C2: Death of My Teenage continued directly from Calendars and included appearances by XXXTentacion and Los Hosale. Throughout those months he issued multiple EPs and singles, briefly explored a possible deal with Cash Money Records, yet decided to stay independent. Molly World arrived as a 2018 mixtape carrying guest turns from Chief Keef, Famous Dex, and additional artists. The single “Can’t Feel My Face,” featuring wifisfuneral, emerged in 2019.
