Biography
Having achieved songwriting success via Asante's "Look What You've Done" in 1996, Sabelle obtained her own recording contract with the Sony/Work label. Raised in New York City, she enjoyed early prominence by capturing talent-show victories and appearing on Showtime at the Apollo. Throughout the early '90s she contributed backing vocals for artists including Donna Summer and Lisa Lisa, then joined the Tommy Boy roster to record the singles "Where Did the Love Go (Say What, Say What, Say What)" and "Old Thing." After shifting her focus to songwriting over performing, she signed with Sony/Work in 1996 and issued her self-titled debut album the following year.
