Biography
British singer/songwriter Sam Johnson emerged in 2018 through his first single “Perfect Circle,” which fused idiosyncratic songwriting with nuanced playing and quickly drew attention, preceding the EPs Eastcote in 2019 and Are We There Yet? in 2021. Raised near Oswestry, Shropshire along the Welsh border, Johnson drew inspiration from classic songwriters including Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell as he chronicled his rural upbringing. That same year he released “Perfect Circle,” which earned airplay on BBC Radio 1 and favorable notices from various online publications. He followed with the 2019 EP Eastcote, a set of intimate material that paired his acoustic work with understated pop production. In 2020 he signed with Universal and put out several songs, among them “World Gone Mad” and “The Kids Are Alright,” which were later compiled on his second EP, Are We There Yet?, issued in 2021.
