In 1981 the Venezuelan band Sentimiento Muerto first began working the club circuit in Caracas. A cassette demo of their own material secured a deal with Sono-Rodven, resulting in the 1987 album El Amor No Existe, Hay Que Hacerlo, helmed by Argentine Latin rock star Fito Paez. Around that period José Echezuria, previously of Cero a la Izquierda, took over guitar from Edgar Jiménez while Sebastian Araujo replaced drummer Alberto Cabello. The follow-up album Sin Sombra No Hay Luz was overseen by producer Guillermo Carrasco. Once Héctor Castillo joined on bass, the group recorded Infecto de Afecto, which contained the hit single "Eva."
