Biography
Caifanes emerged in 1986 as a standout act within Latin American alternative rock when vocalist Saul Hernández, guitarist Alejandro Marcovich, and drummer Alfonso Andre came together in Mexico City. Their self-titled debut album arrived in 1988 and drew modest U.S. radio attention through the single "La Negra Tomasa." The 1990 follow-up El Diablito broadened the band's palette by weaving traditional Caribbean rhythms into its brooding, synth-heavy pop/rock framework, while Adrian Belew's production pushed the sound toward bolder experimentation on the 1992 release El Silencio. Two years afterward, the quartet unveiled its fourth album, El Nervio del Volcán.
