Formed in the early 1970s, the Argentinean folk-rock outfit Sui Generis came together through the partnership of singer, guitarist, and keyboardist Charly García with singer and multi-instrumentalist Nito Mestre, two musicians who had first crossed paths as high school classmates. Their debut album, Vida, appeared in 1972 and was followed a year later by Confesiones de Invierno. Bassist Rinaldo Rafanelli and drummer Juan Rodríguez joined the lineup the next year, after which the expanded group recorded Pequeñas Anécdotas Sobre Las Instituciones. Internal disagreements led the members to schedule a final concert on September 5, 1975, at Luna Park in Buenos Aires. Captured on tape, that performance later surfaced as the double album and documentary Adiós A Sui Generis, an event widely viewed as a landmark moment in Latin rock history. The band reconvened in 1980 for concerts in Montevideo, Uruguay, and Santiago de Chile. In 2000 Sui Generis resurfaced with Sinfonía Para Adolescentes and embarked on a tour of the Americas.
