Argentinean rock band Los Abuelos de la Nada came together in the early 1980s with singer Miguel Abuelo, guitarist Gustavo Bazterrica, keyboardist Andrés Calamaro, bassist Cachorro López, saxophonist Daniel Melingo, and drummer Polo Corbella on board. Miguel Abuelo had already made an unsuccessful bid during the 1970s yet resolved to press forward and sustain his rock ambitions through the following decade. Charly García produced the self-titled Los Abuelos de la Nada album in 1982, which yielded the hit single “Sin Gamulán.” The group delivered a strong showing at Buenos Aires’ Obras Sanitarias in June 1983 and issued Vasos y Besos shortly afterward. One year later Bazterrica and Melingo departed, with Alfredo Desiata and Gringui Herrera stepping in as replacements. Around the same period the band laid down “Himno de Mi Corazón,” which quickly turned into a major success. Los Abuelos de la Nada appeared at the Buenos Aires Rock & Pop Festival in November 1985 alongside Charly García and Fito Paez. The live recording En el Opera surfaced that same year and was followed by Cosas Mias in 1986, after which the band dissolved. Miguel Abuelo succumbed to HIV in March 1988.
