In the closing years of the 1970s, Charly García assembled the Argentine progressive rock outfit Serú Girán alongside guitarist David Lebón, bassist Pedro Aznar, and drummer Oscar Moro. Having previously fronted la Máquina de Hacer Pájaros, García relocated to Brazil to launch this new endeavor. The self-titled debut Serú Girán appeared in 1978 following sessions in Sao Paulo and Los Angeles, with Daniel Goldberg overseeing its orchestral arrangements. The album first reached music journalists before its live unveiling at Buenos Aires' Luna Park, where critics expressed approval even as listeners proved unready for the group's experimental approach. That divided reaction prompted a simpler follow-up, La Grasa de las Capitales, issued in 1979 and introduced onstage at the Buenos Aires' Auditorium. Bicicleta arrived the next year and led to a performance at the Monterrey Jazz Festival in Rio de Janeiro, while Peperina '81 surfaced in 1981. After two concerts at Obras Sanitarias in March 1982, the band dissolved, only to reunite for Serú in 1992 and again for Yo No Quiero Volverme Tan Loco in 2000.
