In 1967, former members of los Larkins and Sbirros established the Argentinean rock band Almendra. During September 1968 the group issued its first single, which contained the tracks "Tema de Pototo" and "El Mundo Entre las Manos." Following the release of two additional singles, the musicians embarked on tours across Argentina and captured a self-titled album in 1969 along with a second album in 1970. Once "Muchacha (Ojos De Papel)" emerged as the band’s principal success, internal disagreements surfaced among the members and produced a strained working atmosphere. Shortly after appearing at the Buenos Aires Rock Festival, the ensemble disbanded. Almendra reconvened in 1979 for concerts at Buenos Aires’ Obras Sanitarias, where a live album was recorded before El Valle Interior appeared in 1980.
