Arco Iris

Formed in Argentina during the 1970s, Arco Iris began as a new age/Latin jazz ensemble. The Spanish word for rainbow supplied the group’s name, which saxophonist Ara Tokatlian and percussionist Danais Tokatlian launched as a husband-and-wife partnership; Latin rock producer and composer Gustavo Santaolalla appeared in the lineup for a time. South American flutes, percussion, and keyboards merge with Ara Tokatlian’s saxophone on the 1993 album Sudamerica, the 1998 recording Peace Will Save the Rainbow, and Peace Pipes, the last of which the pair reissued in 1999 through their own Arco Label.
