Biography
Formed in the early 1980s, the Argentinean pop/rock outfit GIT assembled ex-Banana Pablo Guyot, Willy Iturri, and Alfredo Toth, who had previously belonged to los Gatos. Their move toward independence followed a 1980 stint alongside Raúl Porchetto. In the years that followed, Iturri collaborated with Charly García, Guyot aligned himself with Miguel Mateos, and Toth accompanied singer/songwriter Piero. Charly García oversaw production of GIT’s debut album in 1984, with a second record arriving in 1985. That album received its live unveiling at the Chateau Rock Festival, after which the band embarked on a South American tour. Extensive Argentine dates were mounted to support 1988’s Primera Sangre. For a new GIT project in 1992, several prominent local musicians received invitations to contribute, among them Nito Mestre of Sui Generis; the sessions yielded Distorsión, issued the same year.
