Hailing from Austin, Texas, the electronic duo MISSIO specializes in dark, emotive pop. Established in 2014, the project comprises singer/songwriter Matthew Brue alongside producer and instrumentalist David Butler. What started as a solo vehicle for Brue evolved once he asked Butler to work on several tracks, prompting the pair to commit jointly. Working inside Butler’s garage-turned-home studio, they crafted their brooding, anthemic style and issued early cuts including “I Don’t Even Care About You,” “I Run to You,” and “Can I Exist?” By late 2015 the duo had debuted at SXSW while securing opening slots with SAFIA, K. Flay, and additional artists. Early 2017 brought the single “Middle Fingers” and a deal with RCA Records, which issued their first full-length, Loner, that May. Two acoustic companion EPs, Skeletons, Pt. 1 & Pt. 2, arrived in 2018. MISSIO launched 2019 by unveiling “Rad Drugz,” the opening track from their sophomore album The Darker the Weather // The Better the Man, which followed in April. The duo resurfaced in 2020 with the album Can You Feel the Sun.
