Biography
Robert DeLong, an electronic music creator based in Los Angeles, blends dance tracks with his personal approach to pop songwriting. He uses MIDI controllers and performs live mixes, handling keyboards, drum pads, acoustic drums, computers, and game controllers during his sets. His songwriting often draws on traditional pop elements for lyrics and melodies. His initial full-length project, Just Movement from 2013, marked his entry on the Billboard dance charts, while In the Cards in 2015 climbed into the upper ranks of the Heatseekers listing. Working alongside talents such as K.Flay, Ashe, and Lights, DeLong has refined the sonic layers and expressive range in releases like See You in the Future (2018), Walk Like Me (2021), and Playlist of Doom (2024).
Born in Seattle, he began drumming at ten years old and picked up basic coding skills the following year. During his high school years, DeLong drummed for pop-punk groups and dabbled in 3D animation. After relocating to Los Angeles for music studies at Azusa Pacific University, he launched his distinctive electronic performances. His first solo effort, Just Movement, came out via Glassnote in 2013. Both the album and its track "Global Concepts" charted on U.S. dance and electronic lists. He followed up a year later with the Long Way Down EP, which also hit the dance chart, and its namesake song peaked in the top three on the Alternative Songs tally.
The 2015 sophomore full-length In the Cards reached number nine on the Heatseekers chart and appeared on the rock albums ranking. Much of the next twelve months involved live performances, among them sets at Firefly Music Festival and Coachella, the latter featuring a guest spot from Kamasi Washington. See You in the Future, his 2018 EP, featured the song "Favorite Color Is Blue" with K.Flay that landed in the top twenty on Billboard's Alternative Airplay chart.
Collaborations continued in 2020 with Ashe on "Better in College," then "Did it To Myself" featuring Lights in 2021; these tracks appeared on Walk Like Me, his third album released that year. Playlist of Doom arrived in 2024 as his next full-length, incorporating guest spots from Pahua and LYELL plus co-production input from Tom Peyton, Edan Dover of The Score, and additional contributors.
