Biography
Babasónicos derived its moniker from a nod to the Hindu prophet Baba fused with a beloved 1970s cartoon title. In 1992 the lineup of singer Adrián Rodríguez, keyboardist Uma-T, guitarist Mariano Roger Sónico, bassist Gabo, percussionist Diego Uma, and drummer Diego Castellano laid down the album Pasto, which featured the hit track “De-generación.” Rising popularity for the Latin rock outfit soon opened doors to major bills. Babasónicos served as support for INXS, Soul Asylum, and Depeche Mode throughout 1994, the same year Trance Zomba appeared. August 1995 brought a slot at the Argentine festival Nuevo Rock alongside Peligrosos Gorriones and Los Brujos, strengthening the band’s foothold in the domestic circuit.
