Biography
Hailing from Jacksonville, Florida, Skyliner fuses esoteric, fantasy-driven power metal with elements of thrash and technologically adept progressive rock, bringing to mind Iced Earth, Dream Theater, Gamma Ray, and Storm Warrior. The project originated in 2000 when vocalist/guitarist Jake Becker and drummer/percussionist Ben Brenner, both barely beyond middle school at the time, came together to form the group. They first surfaced in 2005 with Light Comes Out of Black, a set of demos. After growing into a quartet, the musicians delivered their proper studio debut, the Limb Records release Outsiders, in 2014 under the guidance of producer Jamie King (Between the Buried and Me, Devin Townsend, Scale the Summit). Their second album, Condition Black, followed in 2016 on the same label. Skyliner reemerged in 2018 with the largely instrumental EP The Age of Virgo, built around three extended tracks that together span 24 minutes.
