Spanish rock quartet Tahures Zurdos emerged in the closing years of the 1980s under the leadership of singer and guitarist Aurora Beltran, who had earlier performed with the all-female group Belladona before that act split following the release of its first full-length effort, Las Mujeres y Los Niños Primero. The newly formed band secured a deal with the independent imprint Oihuka in 1988 and introduced itself via a self-titled EP; two years later the group delivered the album Tahuria, which contained a distinctive reading of David Bowie’s “Five Years.” At roughly the same moment, founding bassist Luis Salcedo departed and was succeeded by Juanma Ugarte. The ensemble next tracked Nieve Negra in 1991 for EMI, a release followed in short order by Arido in 1992 and La Caza in 1994. Tahures Zurdos also contributed a version of “Fiesta” to a tribute collection honoring Joan Manuel Serrat.
