Biography
Tate Tucker, a multifaceted Californian who sings, writes songs, raps, and produces, fuses styles into a soulful blend that spotlights his fluid, unhurried cadence and frequently otherworldly vocals. Emerging from Los Angeles’s underground circuit, he first broke through in 2016 via the single “Just Wanna.” Ongoing releases carried him forward until 2019, when he unveiled both “Breezy” and the Shangri LA EP.
Born and raised in Santa Monica, Tucker entered the entertainment sphere early: his mother held a role at Virgin Records, and his father worked as an actor and acting coach. During elementary school he began studying drums with Kay Carlson. Only later, while majoring in politics at Georgetown University, did a decisive encounter occur; in his hip-hop sociology class he freestyled before his idol, rapper Lupe Fiasco. The supportive reaction prompted Tucker to commit fully to music, prompting him to construct a bedroom studio where he recorded material ranging from conscious hip-hop to pop-oriented rap.
The 2016 viral success of “Just Wanna” opened further doors, including opening slots for Big Sean and Post Malone. He followed with the singles “Low,” “Capital,” and “Wannabe,” each varying in vocal approach and sonic texture. Early 2017 brought the loss of his father and additional setbacks, spurring a worldwide period of introspection. That journey shaped the single “Trips” and informed the 2018 track “Stride.”
After signing with Harvest Records, Tucker launched a fresh chapter in 2019 with “Breezy,” produced by Tim Anderson (Billie Eilish, Banks) and WaveIQ (Jaden Smith, GoldLink). The sun-washed R&B cut anchored the Shangri LA EP, issued that May.
