Tercer Cielo operates as a Contemporary Christian Latin pop duo built around the husband-and-wife partnership of Juan Carlos Rodríguez and Evelyn Herrera, whose hit singles and albums have positioned the pair as an international multi-platinum selling act. Extensive tours have accompanied multiple nominations for Latin Grammy, Billboard Latin Music Awards, and Premios Lo Nuestro, while awards have followed at Premios Arpa BMI Latin Music Awards, Premios Casandra, and Premios Unción.

Marcos Yaroide launched the group with friends in the Dominican Republic in 2000. The original lineup delivered three albums—En Ti (2000), Tercer Cielo (2003), and Ahora Tengo Mas (2005)—before Yaroide departed to pursue a solo career.

Rodriguez had already crossed paths with Mexican/American singer Evelyn Herrera during production work on one of her projects. After an extended friendship, the two married in 2006. Herrera set aside her solo work to join Tercer Cielo in 2007, and Llueve appeared as their first recording under the new configuration on Baltuco that year.

Hollywood opened 2008 and carried the hit singles "Héroe" and "Cada Día." Two albums followed in 2009: Historia de Amor and the compilation Gente Comun, Sueños Extraordinarios, which featured the hits "Mí Último Día" and "Yo Te Extrañaré."

Singles and growing exposure across Latin pop and social media channels led to the live album En Concierto Creere in 2010. Tercer Cielo shared a bill with Ricardo Montaner and Milly Quezada at Billboard's Latin Music Awards that same year.

Viaje a Las Estrellas arrived in 2011 and included the smash single "Tu Amor No Es de Este Mundo" plus "Un Dia Mejor." Lo Que el Viento Me Enseño, released in 2012, contained the hit "Demente" with a guest vocal from Annette Moreno along with "Yo Te Extrañaré" and additional tracks. After a brief hiatus to launch their independent label Fe y Obra Music, distributed by Vene Music and Universal Latin Entertainment, the duo issued the pre-release single "No Crezcas Más." Irreversible followed in October of 2014.
