The Barden Bellas, an a cappella ensemble specializing in material originally popularized by women, occupy the center of the Pitch Perfect film trilogy. Under the direction of the relatable protagonist Beca Mitchell, portrayed by Anna Kendrick, the group confronts challenges across three installments: a collegiate showdown in the 2012 debut, a worldwide contest in 2015's sequel, and a USO tour in the 2017 conclusion, each showcasing Beca's inventive, movement-driven interpretations of songs from artists including Sia, Lauryn Hill, and Britney Spears. Every original soundtrack tied to the series entered the Billboard 200 Top 20.

Organized at the fictional Barden University, the Bellas feature Beca, Aubrey (Anna Camp), Chloe (Brittany Snow), and "Fat Amy" (Rebel Wilson), all of whom appear across the entire franchise alongside Lilly (Hana Mae Lee), Stacie (Alexis Knapp), Cynthia (Ester Dean), Jessica (Kelley Jakle), and Ashley (Shelley Regner). The first film depicts their 2012 collegiate nationals bid through medleys that weave in tracks by Miley Cyrus, Bruno Mars, Jessie J, and additional performers, while the accompanying hit soundtrack climbed to number three on the Billboard 200. Returning for the 2015 World A Cappella Championship, the lineup expanded to include Emily (Hailee Steinfeld) and Flo (Chrissie Fit) and delivered performances of Beyoncé's "Run the World (Girls)," "Timber" by Pitbull featuring Kesha, and Pat Benatar's "We Belong" from the 1980s; Pitch Perfect 2's soundtrack reached number one on the U.S. album chart and number three in both Canada and Australia.

During their 2017 reunion, Beca opens for DJ Khaled at a USO show that incorporates the Bellas' rendition of George Michael's "Freedom! '90," and the third film's soundtrack rose as high as number 20 on the Billboard 200. The ensemble gathered once more in 2020 to record Beyoncé's "Love on Top" as a UNICEF benefit amid the COVID-19 pandemic, landing in the Top 20 of Billboard's digital songs chart.
