Biography
Andrew Morrison launched his lo-fi electronic project The Cyclist at 18, borrowing the name from Natalia Goncharova's painting The Cyclist while working out of a bedroom studio in his native Derry, Northern Ireland. Boards of Canada's Geogaddi, with its warm, dusty VCR head aesthetic, and the dance rhythms of Throbbing Gristle and New Order shaped his early approach. Relying on the modest gear at hand, he assembled his debut album Bending Brass, issued on cassette by West Virginia indie imprint Crash Symbols. A spot on the Leaving Records/Stones Throw compilation Dual Form came next, after which the two labels jointly put out his 2013 breakthrough Bones in Motion. Dublin's All City followed with Flourish in 2014 and also released Love Repetitive Rhythmics, Morrison's first EP as Buz Ludzha. Music/Is/For/Losers delivered The Cyclist's Hot House in 2015. After signing to Hypercolour, he issued the 2016 EP Pressing Matters, which incorporated jungle and breakbeat hardcore elements. Those directions received further attention on Jungle Tapes, a Ludzha cassette that Tape Throb Records put out; the same label released the self-titled debut EP by Affinity Projects, Morrison's lo-fi dance-pop collaboration with vocalist Tanaya Harper. Hypercolour then hosted the full-length Sapa Inca Delirium in 2017, and 100% Silk followed with the EP Alabaster Thrones in 2018.
