Biography
Formed in Vancouver, Canada, during 1994, the Dirtmitts craft melodious songs that move between alternative rock and pop territories. The lineup consists of Natasha Thirsk on vocals and guitar, Dallas Kruszelnicki on guitar, Jen Deon on bass, and Jason Lajeunesse on drums. Drawing from experimental outfits such as Sonic Youth and Cocteau Twins, the quartet presents melodious yet tense interpretations of pop and gradually assembles a solid audience inside Canada and outside its borders. Following multiple years of self-released cassettes and discs together with extensive live performances, the group enters the studio for its first full-length effort. Working with producer Darryl Neudorf, the self-titled The Dirtmitts appears in 2001, after which the band launches its initial major tour. Back in Canada, the musicians return to recording, this time alongside Dave Genn, a sideman for Matthew Good. Completed the next October, Get On surfaces in Canada that month, while the United States and Europe receive it one month later.
