Biography
Hailing from Pennsylvania, the nu-metal-infused deathcore unit the Last Ten Seconds of Life took its moniker from a Smiths lyric and arrived in 2010 with a ferocious, unrelenting assault that soon positioned the group as a standout in the regional underground rock circuit. Following an independently issued debut album in 2011, the band inked its first deal with Workhorse Music Group, resulting in the widely praised Invivo (Exvivo) two years later. A shift to Siege of Amida produced Violent Sound in 2016. The musicians established their own imprint to issue the digital-only Machina Non Grata in 2019 before moving to Unique Leader Records for a self-titled full-length in 2022, with No Name Graves surfacing in March 2024.
The ensemble came together in 2010 in Meadville, Pennsylvania, during the members’ time at Mansfield University. Its founding roster included Storm Strope handling vocals, Wyatt McLaughlin and Casey Quick on guitars, Thomas Giamanco on bass, and Christian Fisher behind the drums. Although the sound was punishing, the Last Ten Seconds of Life drew its name from a Smiths line; within twelve months the group was already touring extensively and had put out Know Your Exits on its own. Continued road work in support of that record led to a revised lineup by 2013, with Quick departing and McLaughlin assuming all guitar duties while Giamanco was succeeded first by Anthony Madara and then by Mike Menocker.
Density Records brought the band aboard, and Invivo (Exvivo) appeared in October 2013. As with its predecessor, extensive live activity followed, including shared bills with I Declare War, Fit for an Autopsy, Thy Art Is Murder, and Kublai Khan. The following year the musicians returned to Atrium Audio in Lancaster, Pennsylvania—the same facility used for Invivo (Exvivo)—to track their next effort. Soulless Hymns arrived in January 2015 and marked the group’s strongest commercial showing to that point, entering Billboard’s Hard Rock Albums chart at number 22 and the Heatseekers chart at number 14.
In October 2015 the Last Ten Seconds of Life disclosed that Storm Strope had exited and that John Robert Centorrino, formerly of My Bitter End, would fill in on vocals for an upcoming tour. By May 2016 Centorrino had joined permanently, and the band soon entered the studio once more. The Violent Sound surfaced in November 2016 and likewise debuted at number 14 on the Heatseekers chart. The fifth studio album, the aggressive, digital-only Machina Non Grata, followed on the group’s own label in 2019.
After U.S. touring and the pandemic period, the band signed with Unique Leader Records and delivered a self-titled long-player in January 2022. In March, Centorrino, Menocker, and drummer Steven Sanchez all departed without stated reason. Later that year a refreshed configuration welcomed vocalist Tyler Beam, bassist Andrew Petway, and drummer Dylan Potts. October brought the single and video for “Annihilation Phenomena,” which appeared on the Disquisition on an Execution EP the next month. In early 2024 this lineup issued No Name Graves, co-produced by Carson Slovak and Grant McFarland. The track “Saint No More” featured guest vocals from Ben Mason of Bound in Fear, while “Letania Infernalis” and the title song included contributions from Sanguisugabogg and Suffocation, respectively.
