Biography
The Night Flight Orchestra emerged from Helsingborg, Sweden, as a melody-driven AOR and classic rock ensemble whose members maintain close connections to acts such as Soilwork, Arch Enemy, Darkane, and Spiritual Beggars. The collective surfaced toward the end of the 2000s and received a Grammis nomination in 2017 for its third album, Amber Galactic; comparable recognition followed for the subsequent releases Sometimes the World Ain't Enough in 2018 and the paired projects Aeromantic in 2020 and Aeromantic II in 2021.
Soilwork guitarist Björn Strid and David Andersson launched the band in 2007. Over time it settled into a five-piece configuration after bassist Sharlee D'Angelo, keyboardist Richard Larsson, and drummer Jonas Källsbäck joined the lineup, all of whom performed on the 2012 debut Internal Affairs issued by Coroner Records. In 2015 the group incorporated multi-instrumentalist Sebastian Forslund, whose first contribution appeared on the follow-up Skyline Whispers. Two years later the Night Flight Orchestra signed with Nuclear Blast and delivered Amber Galactic, earning another Grammis nomination. Further acclaim, including an additional Grammis nod, greeted the 2018 album Sometimes the World Ain't Enough, which added permanent backing vocalists Anna-Mia Bonde and Anna Brygård to the roster. Drawing on the polished studio approach of 1980s pop and rock, the band issued its fifth album, the melodramatic, aviation-inspired Aeromantic, in 2020; its sequel, Aeromantic II, arrived the next year. On September 14, 2022, guitarist David Andersson passed away at age 47.
