English rap-metal quartet the One Hundred fuse nu-metal and trancecore textures with grime-inflected vocals delivered through a pronounced London accent, carving out a distinctive sound within the style. The group originated in Guildford, Surrey during 2013 when vocalist Jacob Field and guitarist Tim Hider first came together; what began strictly as a writing-and-production venture shifted once they noticed no existing act was delivering the hybrid they had created, prompting them to assemble a full band. Bassist Phil Kneller and drummer Joe Balchin joined soon after, locking in a ferocious, high-impact approach shaped by the sounds of Senser, Slipknot, Linkin Park, Enter Shikari, and the Prodigy, while Field moved fluidly between confrontational rudeboy flows and visceral metal screams and growls. Early single “Breed” earned airplay on BBC Radio 1 and earned the band a live session for The Rock Show. Their first EP, Subculture, arrived in 2014 on the independent metal imprint UNFD, earning widespread critical praise and drawing parallels to fellow UK outfit Hacktivist. Festival slots at Download followed alongside prominent opening dates with Papa Roach, Mötley Crüe, and Crossfaith, raising their profile further. A subsequent agreement with European metal powerhouse Spinefarm paved the way for the June 2017 full-length Chaos + Bliss; anchored by the dynamic single “Monster,” the record pushed the band’s forward-looking aesthetic into fresh territory by folding in R&B and pop ingredients.
