Biography
Drawing from the straightforward mid-fi punk sound pioneered by Wipers and Dead Moon in their formative years, along with an added dash of quirky New Zealand pop, the Woolen Men came together during the late 2000s in Portland, Oregon. Alex Geddes, Lawton Browning, and Raf Spielman make up the trio. Once established, the group launched into an extensive series of 7" singles and cassette issues on imprints such as Eggy, Gnar Tapes, and Apes Tapes, supplementing these with their own tour-only cassettes. Woodsist Records took notice, prompting the band to start album sessions in 2012; material from five separate recordings across five sites was ultimately combined to form the self-titled The Woolen Men, issued on vinyl in early 2013. A further round of modest D.I.Y. projects—two EPs and a split 7" alongside fellow Portland outfit Spookies—came next, setting the stage for the second album, Temporary Monument, which appeared in September 2015.
