Tony Moran

Tony Moran's prominent role in commercial post-disco club music began in the early 1980s as a member of the Latin Rascals alongside Albert Cabrera. Working as a producer, remixer, DJ, and sporadic recording artist, he flourished during that decade through his partnership with Cabrera. Their reputation grew from the demanding and creative mastermixes aired on New York's Kiss FM, while their editing skills shaped dozens of singles for acts including the Beastie Boys, Daryl Hall & John Oates, Diana Ross, and the Rolling Stones. In their production work, the duo secured an initial major crossover success with the Cover Girls' freestyle classic "Show Me" in 1986. Toward the close of the 1980s and into the 1990s, Moran pursued house-focused solo ventures such as Concept of One and Same Sun, Same Sky, the latter issued under his birth name via RCA. In the later 1990s, his co-productions on Gloria Estefan's tracks "Heaven's What I Feel" and "Don't Let This Moment End" earned Grammy nominations for Best Dance Recording. Throughout the ensuing years, most of his output consisted of commercial house productions featuring collaborators such as Kristine W., Ultra Naté, Jennifer Holliday, and Martha Wash. He also assembled multiple DJ mixes, among them several releases for Centaur Music and Tour de Beats for Tommy Boy. In 2015 and 2016, three of his singles reached the top of Billboard's Dance Club Songs chart: the Wash-fronted "Free People," along with the Jason Walker collaborations "So Happy" and "Say Yes."
