Biography
Towkio, the Mexican-Japanese rapper earlier billed as Preston San and Tokyo Shawn, launched his career inside Chicago’s SaveMoney collective that also counted Chance the Rapper, Vic Mensa, and Joey Purp among its members. Born Preston Oshita, the charismatic and animated artist issued the four-track EP Hotchips N Chopstix in 2014, its beats supplied solely by the crew A Billion Young. That brief project preceded the long-gestating mixtape .Wav Theory, which carried guest spots from Chance, Mensa, Kaytranada, and additional contributors. Community Service 2 followed the next year as a seven-song collection that highlighted Joey Purp and Vic Mensa. Four singles appeared in 2017—“Drift,” “Swim,” “Hot Shit,” and “Symphony” with Teddy Jackson.
