Brothers Caleb, handling guitar and vocals, and Ashton Bird, on drums and vocals, created Tweak Bird as natives of Carbondale, Illinois, the site of Southern Illinois University. They played intermittently across multiple years prior to their move to Los Angeles in the mid-2000s. In that city the pair crafted a compelling style that merged contemporary elements such as alternative, stoner, and post-rock with classic inspirations drawn from '60s and '70s psych, prog, and hard rock. A pair of 7" singles first showcased this approach, followed by the release of their debut EP, Reservations, on Volcom Entertainment in 2008. Tours alongside Big Business and Tool preceded a studio session with production team Deaf Nephews, whose members include Dale Crover of the Melvins and Toshi Kasai of Altamont, resulting in the self-titled full-length issued in 2010. Summer 2012 brought road dates with the Melvins, after which the second EP, Undercover Crops, appeared before year’s end.
