Two Inch Astronaut came together as a post-punk trio in 2009 inside Colesville, Maryland, a Washington, D.C. suburb. Their music echoes classic Dischord Records acts such as Fugazi and Jawbox. Sam Rosenberg (vocals/guitar), Daniel Pouridas (bass), and Matt Gatwood (drums) fuse forceful singing with precise, layered playing. The band’s first outing, the Slip Disco EP, appeared in September 2010, and roughly a year and a half later they released the Red Pancake and Dark Energy EP. Pop sensibilities surface in their thoughtful material, which often places catchy melodic refrains inside angular guitar work and changing rhythms. A split 7" surfaced in late 2012, and the summer of 2013 brought their debut full-length, Bad Brother, which drew widespread critical notice. Tightening their approach, they returned the following year with their second album, Foulbrood. After Pouridas exited in 2016, Andy Chervenak joined on bass and made his recorded debut on Personal Life. J. Robbins of Jawbox produced that LP and also guided their next release, 2017’s Can You Please Not Help.
