Based in Philadelphia, Hurry blends the wistful chime and melodic craft of vintage power pop with a hazy indie rock sound drawn from the 1990s. What began as a solo outlet for Matthew Scottoline, previously the bassist in Everyone Everywhere, quickly expanded into a full band across the project's initial releases. Subsequent records, including Every Little Thought in 2018, Fake Ideas in 2021, and Don't Look Back in 2023, leaned into lush vocal layers and introspective melodic rock.

While playing bass for the Philadelphia group Everyone Everywhere, Matthew Scottoline rarely had opportunities to contribute vocals or material. He channeled his spare time into home recordings that explored power pop and 1990s guitar textures more deeply than his primary band allowed. He christened the endeavor Hurry, and it sustained his songwriting momentum throughout his ten years with Everyone Everywhere. In 2012 he issued an eight-track self-titled debut under the Hurry banner, performing every instrument himself. As Everyone Everywhere scaled back its activities in the early 2010s, Scottoline assembled a live band, enlisting drummer Rob DeCarolis and a rotating cast of friends on bass. The configuration settled with DeCarolis behind the kit and his brother Joe handling bass duties, leading to the recording of the group's first proper album. Everything/Nothing appeared on Hot Green Records in late 2014. The band next contributed "Shake It Off" to Lame-O Records' six-act compilation Strength in Weakness before joining Yuck on tour later that year. Hurry remained with Lame-O for its follow-up, Guided Meditation, which surfaced in April 2016.

While the project's earliest band efforts leaned into distorted 1990s-style indie rock, Every Little Thought from 2018 highlighted Scottoline's melodic power-pop leanings more clearly. That same emphasis on warm harmonies and gently melancholic songcraft carried into the fourth album, Fake Ideas. Issued in June 2021, the record merged love songs with reflections on anxiety. Arriving amid the COVID-19 pandemic, it was followed soon afterward by the conclusion of Scottoline's eleven-year relationship, an event that shaped the material for the next Hurry release. Don't Look Back, another set of sweetly subdued indie pop, emerged in 2023.
