Biography
Hailing from Dilbeek, where he first saw the light of day in 1949 under the name Urbain Servranckx, the versatile Belgian performer Urbanus has long deployed his distinctive brand of subversive and anarchic comedy throughout comedy clubs, cinema screens, recording studios, and illustrated pages alike. Across a discography that now totals fourteen albums, his strongest chart impact came during the closing years of the 1970s and the opening years of the 1980s thanks to the singles “Bakske Vol Met Stro” and “Hittentit,” though he still managed to climb as high as number two in 2011 with the release of Goe Poeier. Even so, his widest recognition stems from leading parts in the motion pictures Hector, Koko Flanel, and Seventh Heaven, together with the more than one hundred comic books he has produced in tandem with Willy Linthout, all centered on a teenage incarnation of his own persona.
