Renowned among Belgium's foremost rock vocalists, Raymond Van Het Groenewoud began as guitarist for Johan Verminnen and later co-founded the band Louisette with Erik Van Neygen in 1972. Characterizing himself as poet, philosopher, and clown, he moved into solo work the next year backed by his longstanding group De Centimeters, landing an early success with the 1977 single "Meisjes" and his first chart-topper in 1990 via "Liefde Voor Muziek." During the 2000s he earned acclaim for protest material that included the anti-Bush song "Down with America" as well as "WapperSong," written in opposition to Antwerp's planned Lange Wapper Bridge.
