Vesania, whose name derives from the Latin term for insanity, emerged in 1997 as a symphonic black metal unit headquartered in Legionowo, Poland. The founding lineup drew on Behemoth bassist and backing vocalist Tomasz Wróblewski (Orion), Vader drummer Dariusz Brzozowski (Daray), and Decapitated and UnSun bassist Filip Hałucha (Heinrich). Their sound fused a relentless blackened death metal attack with evocative yet equally loud symphonic metal elements. In 2002 the group issued its first release, the split album Moonastray, limited to 666 blood-signed copies and shared with fellow extreme metal act Black Altar; their first proper full-length, Firefrost Arcanum, arrived the next year on Empire Records. Keyboardist Krzysztof Oloś (Siegmar) entered the lineup in time for the 2005 album God the Lux, while lead guitarist Marcin Walenczykowski (Valeo) came aboard the following year and debuted on record with the 2007 Napalm Records release Distractive Killusions. The band’s fourth studio album, Deus Ex Machina, marked its debut on Metal Blade when it surfaced in 2014.
