Biography
Vltimas formed as an extreme metal supergroup uniting award-winning Norwegian guitarist Rune Eriksen (aka Blasphemer, ex-Mayhem), vocalist David Vincent (ex-Morbid Angel), and drummer Flo Mounier (Cryptopsy). Their approach draws from each musician’s background in vintage black and death metal.
While based in Portugal and active with projects such as Aura Noir, Eriksen sought a return to the icy, Scandinavian riffing of blackened death metal. He reached out to Mounier, a frequent collaborator in guest appearances who had long shared the idea of forming a band together. Eriksen also contacted Vincent, an artist he had known through years of correspondence and who was then leaving Morbid Angel in search of a new venture. Together as Vltimas, the three pooled their individual strengths.
They first convened at Georgetown’s Noize Factory studio in the United States to begin writing. The sessions generated strong results; Eriksen later expanded the initial sketches at his Lisbon home studio before he and Mounier joined Vincent at his Texas facility to complete the arrangements. Once all three members had approved and properly demoed the material, they brought the songs to Orgone Studios in Woburn, England, in May 2018, where producer Jaime Gomez Arellano oversaw the recording of nine crushing tracks. After submitting the recordings to several labels, they signed with Season of Mist. Vltimas released their debut album, Something Wicked Marches In, in the spring of 2019.
