Ville Valo, performing under the name VV, first achieved widespread recognition as the unpredictable and magnetic frontman of Finland’s leading goth rock outfit H.I.M., later emerging as one of the nation’s most visible public figures through his distinction as the only Finnish artist to obtain a gold record in the United States. After completing six albums with the band, he launched an independent path by issuing the 2007 single “Summer Wine” alongside Natalia Avelon. Subsequent years brought additional releases and partnerships with acts including Agents, the 69 Eyes, and Apocalyptica. H.I.M. produced two further studio albums prior to its official disbandment in 2017, paving the way for Valo’s debut solo full-length, the brooding, electronics-leaning Neon Noir, which appeared in 2023 under the VV moniker.
