Biography
Wes Carr, born September 14, 1982, in Adelaide, South Australia, is an Australian singer and songwriter who first gained national attention after winning the sixth season of Australian Idol in 2008. He had already begun composing original material during his teenage years and performed with several bands before that television appearance. In 2003 he formed Tambalane together with Silverchair drummer Ben Gillies, who was then taking a break from his main project. The group issued its self-titled debut album in 2005 along with the singles “Little Miss Liar” and “Free.” Once Gillies rejoined the other members of Silverchair, Tambalane disbanded. Carr then launched a solo career, self-releasing the independent EP Rhythm to Fly in 2006 and the full-length album Simple Sum the following year. His Idol victory brought immediate commercial impact when the season-finale song “You” was issued digitally and ascended to number one on the Australian singles chart, briefly displacing Lady GaGa’s “Poker Face.” Building on that momentum, he delivered his major-label debut album The Way the World Looks, on which he co-wrote nearly every track, and supported it with the subsequent singles “Feels Like Woah” and “Fearless.”
