Biography
Christian rapper Whatuprg brought tireless drive and faith into music from the outset, laying down rhymes by age 12, self-releasing projects by 14, and securing label deals plus guest appearances alongside prominent Christian rap figures before reaching his late teens. The 2018 move to Atlanta-based Reach Records marked a decisive step forward; the label issued his Pleasant Hill EP early in that cycle while he prepared a debut album.
J. Raul Garcia, born in Gwinnett County, Georgia, absorbed music throughout childhood. Reggae caught his ear at seven, and within several years he shifted from devoted listener to creating his own verses. At 14 his parents covered the costs of his debut independent album. Although the performances and production remained rough, Garcia soon began crafting beats and tracking vocals on a laptop, allowing his skills to sharpen through steady practice. Early connections in the Christian hip-hop community linked him with nobigdyl, Derek Minor, and Mogli the Iceburg; he later appeared on tracks by these established artists while continuing to refine his own material.
The 2016 single “Don’t Forget to Live,” paired with a spur-of-the-moment video filmed inside a Walmart, delivered his first major exposure. Momentum built through 2017 as he dropped “Aquafina” and “Where You Been?,” then joined nobigdyl’s collective Indie Tribe. That affiliation proved brief; later the same year he signed with the larger Reach Records. The label followed with the “Glow” single and the Pleasant Hill EP while Whatuprg advanced work on a full-length project.
