Biography
Jake Hagood, the Nashville-based singer and songwriter also known as Fancy Hagood, records under the stage name Who Is Fancy. An enigmatic social marketing campaign surrounded the project, with the name Who Is Fancy assigned to the single “Goodbye,” which surfaced on YouTube and reached radio in early 2015. Originally from Bentonville, Arkansas, Hagood had already spent several years writing songs in Nashville before issuing “Goodbye.” The track, a sleek midtempo breakup anthem driven by a yearning male vocal melody steeped in R&B, came out through Universal and the Nashville-based music group Big Machine, the label to which Who Is Fancy was signed. Online speculation at the time frequently identified Hagood as the performer, largely because Fancy Hagood shared songwriting credit with Jesse Frasure and Steph Jones. In April 2015 Hagood finally stepped forward during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and confirmed that he was the artist behind Who Is Fancy.
